Accommodation in Inverness

Events can often impinge upon Congresses. Inverness is no exception! A huge event, Rock Ness, is overlapping with the Congress; so all types of accommodation are under heavy demand.

Scottish Congress

The Congress has been transferred to Inverness, the Capital of the Highlands.

It will take place in the Ramada Jarvis Hotel, Church Street.

More details will follow soon.

Change of venue for Scottish Congress

The Scottish Esperanto Association has had a booking for its annual Congress for quite some time with the hotel in Invershin, Sutherland. There were rumours that the hotel was possibly giong to be sold; but that did not worry us too much as hotels frequently change hands, and bookings are part of any deal. However, we were taken aback when the proprietor indicated that the building would no longer be a hotel; so our booking would have to be cancelled.

At present President David Hannah is seeking another venue. When we have concrete details, full information will be published; however, the dates (6/9 June 2008) and part of the world (northern Scotland) will hopefully be unchanged.

The unexpected often happens when conferences are being planned; but change-of-use for a hotel is not too common. Ironically, we had a fall-back position, but another group thwarted us when they made a very early booking!

La Kongreso ne okazos en Invershin; la problemo estas la baldaŭa vendo de la kongresa hotelo. Tiaj vendoj okazos de tempo-al-tempo; sed bedaŭrinde la konstruaĵo ne plu estos hotelo.

Espereble la kongreso okazos samdate (6/9 junio 2008) ie en norda Skotlando. Ni sciigos ĉiujn kiam ne havos firmajn detalojn.

Esperantigu Fajrfokson!

Edinburgh Celebration of Zamenhof

The Scottish capital was cold but with indications of the coming festivities agreeably complementing its glorious architecture.

The venue (on 1 December 2007) was St. Mark's Unitarian Church: an unusual ecclesiastical essay by the great David Bryce.

During the morning the Scottish Committee really laboured; it was one of the most important meeting of recent years: the results will emerge in the coming months!

In the afternoon others arrived, and we celebrated Dr. Zamenhof by looking analytically at Esperanto, his astonishing gift to the world.

Girvan Mckay (From Ireland) delivered the lecture: thoughtful, challenging, humorous and in impeccable Esperanto. It was followed by 45 minutes of questions and observations.

After that we all attacked the festive table, and informally honed our Esperanto.
